On November 2, 2026, President Kaïs Saïed chaired a meeting at the Carthage Palace with Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, to discuss several infrastructure and public project files. The President emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the legislation governing public markets, citing the current texts' inadequacy in addressing the country's needs. This reform aims to enhance transparency, prevent fraudulent practices, and reduce project execution delays.

The proposed reform will cover all economic and administrative sectors, extending beyond infrastructure projects. President Saïed denounced the delays and irregularities in several projects, as well as corrupt practices in some public markets. He stressed the importance of modernizing the legal framework to ensure better use of public resources and improve the quality of infrastructure.

The meeting reviewed the progress of several infrastructure projects across the country, including the road connecting Tunisia to Algeria, which is nearing completion. The President also examined several road projects in interior regions, some of which have experienced significant delays or technical issues shortly after being put into service.

Another major project discussed was the construction of a bridge linking the island of Djerba to the mainland, aiming to replace the current ferry and Roman road connections. This infrastructure is expected to facilitate travel between the island and the mainland, eliminating long wait times for travelers.

President Saïed reiterated the need to prioritize the development of interior regions and reduce territorial disparities. He noted that Tunisia has significant natural resources distributed across its territory, but several regions have been marginalized despite their economic potential.

The President emphasized that Tunisia is in a race against time to meet the aspirations of its population. He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing reforms and accelerating strategic project implementation, assuring that new decisions and achievements will follow.

President Saïed concluded that the Tunisian people's determination and willpower are essential in addressing current challenges and transforming national ambitions into concrete achievements. He called for accelerated implementation of projects that improve living conditions and promote regional development.
