The island of Fogo, Cabo Verde, is set to receive its first charter flight from Sal on Thursday, November 3. The flight, operated by Atlantur, aims to boost connectivity, promote tourism, and create new business opportunities. The flight will depart from Sal at 09:30 and return at 17:30 on the same day. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and tourism industry.

The president of the São Filipe Municipal Chamber, Nuías Silva, met with Carlos Salgueiral, co-manager of Atlantur, and Fátima Louro, director of Qualitur, to discuss the project. The meeting focused on the potential of this air link for mobility, tourism, and local economic growth. Silva expressed his support for initiatives that enhance the island's connectivity and promote São Filipe and the island as a whole.

The charter flight will operate weekly, every Thursday, and may help promote the island as a tourist destination. It could also facilitate the transportation of products from Fogo to Sal and foster commercial initiatives. However, Silva recommends establishing a commercial air route between Sal and Fogo to improve connections with the diaspora and attract tourists visiting Sal and Boa Vista.

During the visit of the Secretary of State for Tourism to Fogo Island, Silva emphasized that a regular air link would allow visitors to include Fogo in their itineraries. The island offers various attractions, including the volcano, Salinas, wine, coffee, gastronomy, nature, and local traditions. Many tourists are currently seeking information on how to visit Fogo, and a regular air connection could meet this demand.

According to Silva, a weekly commercial connection has the potential to become sustainable and eventually justify increased flight frequencies. The São Filipe Municipal Chamber also plans to work on establishing a commercial air link between São Vicente and Fogo as part of its strategy to diversify access to the island.

The charter flight is a significant step towards enhancing Fogo's connectivity and promoting its tourism industry. The flight will provide an opportunity for tourists to experience the island's unique attractions and for local businesses to benefit from increased accessibility.

The successful implementation of this charter flight may pave the way for future air link projects, including a commercial route between Sal and Fogo. This would further boost the island's economy and tourism sector, providing more opportunities for growth and development.
