The Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari, recently visited the Nabeul governorate to inspect the progress of various road and bridge projects. The visit aimed to assess the state of projects and ensure that contractors adhere to their commitments. These projects are crucial in protecting cities from floods and repairing infrastructure damaged by heavy rainfall earlier in 2026.
The Nabeul governorate is witnessing numerous projects under the Ministry of Equipment, including several major bridge and road projects worth over 250 million dinars. During his visit, Zouari examined the progress of these projects and emphasized the importance of completing them on time. He also highlighted the need for rigorous monitoring of the projects to prevent future floods.
A program has been set up to repair damage caused by floods earlier in 2026, covering various affected areas in several delegations. The program includes 29 intervention projects on roads and tracks, as well as flood protection projects, totaling approximately 66 million dinars. The minister noted that the progress of these projects ranges between 30% and over 50%, with completion expected by the end of the year.
Zouari stressed the need to accelerate the pace of work and ensure strict monitoring of project execution to prevent floods. He stated that the Ministry of Equipment and regional authorities have provided all necessary means to complete the projects as required and overcome potential difficulties. The minister also emphasized the importance of valuing maintenance and repair efforts through monitoring and cooperation among stakeholders.
The minister called for greater awareness among citizens about the need to adopt responsible behavior and not dispose of waste in oueds, to enhance flood prevention efforts and limit damage. He also inspected other sites requiring intervention, which could be programmed within the 2027 budget under maintenance or other programs.
During his visit, Zouari inspected the progress of work on the regional road 128 connecting Aïn Oktor to Korbous, spanning 2.5 kilometers, with a total cost exceeding 100 million dinars. The project is nearly 90% complete and is expected to have a significant social and economic impact by opening up the region and boosting Korbous, known for its thermal springs.
The Minister of Equipment affirmed his department's interest in completing ongoing projects and closing their files to enable the region to benefit from a new generation of projects expected within the 2027 budget or the 2026-2030 development plan. The completion of these projects is expected to improve infrastructure and enhance the region's economic prospects.
