Tunisia and Senegal are seeking to strengthen their economic ties, with a focus on enhancing trade exchanges and exploring new investment opportunities. According to Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Oubid, Senegal holds a significant position in Tunisia's economic exchanges, particularly in Africa south of the Sahara. Oubid noted that Tunisian exports to the Senegalese market comprise around 200 products from over 150 Tunisian companies.

The Tunisian minister highlighted that olive oil and dates are among the top products exported to Senegal, with Tunisia being the country's leading supplier of these products. This reflects the high quality and competitiveness of Tunisian products. Oubid emphasized that despite these positive indicators, the current trade exchanges and cooperation relationships between the two nations remain below the level of their aspirations.

Oubid revealed that over 50 Tunisian companies are currently active in the Senegalese market, bringing valuable expertise and experience that can be leveraged to explore new opportunities and implement joint projects. He encouraged Senegalese companies to invest in Tunisia and strengthen partnerships with their Tunisian counterparts, particularly in sectors such as food industries, canning, pharmaceuticals, and services.

The minister stressed the crucial role of support institutions in both countries, including the Center for the Promotion of Exports, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and professional structures. These institutions can facilitate the development of cooperation, open up new avenues for trade exchanges, and boost exports by organizing business meetings, participating in trade fairs, and exchanging expertise.

Oubid also highlighted the significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area in promoting economic exchanges between Tunisia and Senegal. He suggested that Senegal can serve as a platform for Tunisian companies to access West African markets, while Tunisia can act as a gateway for Senegalese companies to enter European and Mediterranean markets.

To further enhance economic cooperation, Oubid proposed the development of a roadmap that outlines institutional partnerships, defines priority sectors, and identifies model projects that can be implemented. He also emphasized the need for regular business meetings, company missions, and participation in specialized trade fairs to ensure the success of these initiatives.

The Senegalese Minister of Industry and Trade's General Secretary echoed Oubid's sentiments, emphasizing the need to develop economic exchanges, strengthen cooperation relationships, and create new investment opportunities between the two countries. The two nations aim to build on their existing economic ties and explore new avenues for growth and development.
