The Togolese Press Agency reports that a sensitization campaign was held on November 4 in the Haho 1 commune, targeting farmers and exploitants of the Agoto Planned Agricultural Zone (ZAAP-Agoto). The initiative was led by the prefect of Haho, Colonel Gnakou Alowègnim, in collaboration with the prefectural department of agriculture and the Haho Institute of Technical Advice and Support.

The campaign aimed to educate farmers and exploitants on the government's policy in planned agricultural zones, focusing on the production of food crops and market gardening to achieve food security in Togo. The participants were also informed about the limits of the domain and existing installations.

During the exchanges, participants shared their difficulties, including the timely cultivation of arable land, transhumance, and access to potable water. A guided tour of the ZAAP-Agoto zone was also organized. Colonel Gnakou explained that the planned agricultural zones are government initiatives to support farmers and livestock producers in food crop and animal resource production.

The authorities are working to improve access to irrigation water, tractors for plowing, seeds, and fertilizers to enable large-scale production for the benefit of the population. The prefect invited agricultural actors to align with the government's vision to initiate the process of food security in Togo.

The president of ZAAP-Agoto, Dossou Mawuli, assured the prefect of the producers' willingness to accelerate agricultural work to meet population needs and achieve food security in Togo. The Haho prefecture has several planned agricultural zones, including Sagada, Mayicopé, Agbatitoé, Asrama, Agoto, and Kpégnon Adja.

These zones cultivate various crops such as maize, sesame, beans, soybeans, and vegetables, while also developing fruit farming, livestock, and fish farming. The sensitization campaign is part of a broader effort to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the region.

By engaging with local farmers and exploitants, the government aims to address the challenges faced by the agricultural sector and promote sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and contribute to the overall development of the Haho prefecture.
