The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully rescued a group of fishermen who were abducted by suspected sea pirates. The rescue operation took place in the Ibeno Local Government Area of the state, where the fishermen, including a Ghanaian national, were attacked while traveling towards the Atlantic Ocean. Fortunately, the victims were rescued unharmed by personnel of the Asawana Mobile Police Base after an exchange of gunfire with the pirates.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the rescue operation was carried out around the ocean boundary between Akwa Ibom and Rivers states. Several items were recovered from the scene, including outboard engines, containers of petroleum products, mobile phones, and other equipment. The police also recovered an identity card bearing a National Identity Number (NIN).

In a separate operation, the police arrested two suspected electricity vandals, Chinedu Onwe and Enobong Jonah, in connection with the vandalism of a community transformer in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. The suspects allegedly carted away several components of the transformer in a tricycle before transferring the stolen items into a red minibus.

The police intercepted the suspected vehicle along the Etinan route, but the suspects abandoned it and fled into a nearby bush after an exchange of gunfire with the police. The Commissioner of Police disclosed these details during a press conference in Uyo, highlighting the command's efforts to combat crime in the state.

The rescued fishermen, including the Ghanaian national, were traveling towards the Atlantic Ocean when they were attacked by suspected sea pirates. The police have not disclosed the identities of the pirates, but it is clear that the command is working to bring them to justice.
