The Anambra state police command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, in connection with an alleged case of self-kidnapping, fraud, conspiracy, and N3 million ransom payment by her family. According to the police, Blessing was arrested by a team of operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Asaba, Delta State, following credible intelligence received during an investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.
Blessing was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. Despite her family paying a N3 million ransom, she was not released, prompting further investigation by the police. The state police command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the suspect was recovered in a room in Asaba, Delta State, on September 18, 2026.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Blessing allegedly conspired with a female associate, Onyinye, and a male accomplice, whose identity is yet unknown, to stage her own kidnapping and obtain money from her family. The suspect is currently assisting the police with useful information towards establishing the full circumstances of her alleged kidnap and identifying her alleged accomplices.
The state commissioner of police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law. The police are working to identify and apprehend Blessing's alleged accomplices.
