Nairobi Senator and Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna has made a commitment to replace a taxi that was torched during last month's violent Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay. Sifuna made the pledge after reading about Otieno's situation in a story published in The Standard.
According to reports, Steven Otieno was driving a Subaru Legacy hired to transport Abbie Zuena, a mobiliser associated with the Linda Mwananchi political movement, to the rally in Homa Bay. During the rally, they encountered groups of youths and sought refuge at a church. Unfortunately, Otieno was attacked, sustaining deep cuts to his face, back, arm, hands, and feet, including a fractured arm. The vehicle he was driving was later set on fire outside the church.
The violence that occurred during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay resulted in the destruction of at least six vehicles, with drivers unable to escape groups of armed youths. The incident also left dozens of people injured and four people dead. For Steven Otieno, the aftermath has been particularly difficult, as he continues to recover from his injuries and is unable to return to work due to the loss of his vehicle.
