The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has partnered with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to provide 430 housing units to its workers under the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme. The programme, which covers projects in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos, aims to increase access to affordable housing for Nigerian workers through institutional partnerships and mortgage finance. This initiative is a collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, FMBN, Family Homes Funds Limited, NMDPRA Staff Cooperative Society, CityCode Mortgage Bank, and private developers.

The allocation letters were formally presented to the beneficiaries at the NMDPRA Auditorium in Abuja, marking a significant step towards making homeownership a reality for NMDPRA workers. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, emphasized the Federal Government's commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities. He also mentioned plans to introduce a social housing initiative that aims to deliver 100 housing units in every Local Government Area nationwide, highlighting the government's determination to address Nigeria's housing challenge.

According to the FMBN Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Shehu Usman Osidi, the initiative demonstrates how government housing policies can be converted into actual homeownership opportunities for workers. NMDPRA workers have subscribed to 359 housing units at Karsana, Abuja, and another 14 units at Janguza, Kano. A total of 197 NHF mortgage applications worth about ₦8.3 billion are being packaged for onward processing by FMBN, with CityCode Mortgage Bank assisting beneficiaries with their mortgage applications.

Osidi disclosed that FMBN's intervention in the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme includes project financing and off-take guarantees designed to give developers greater certainty and accelerate housing delivery. The Karsana project, where FMBN provided ₦19.9 billion in direct project financing alongside a ₦100 billion off-taker guarantee, is an example of the Bank's strategy to combine construction financing with mortgage access for prospective homeowners.

The FMBN boss urged the beneficiaries to work closely with their cooperative society, CityCode Mortgage Bank, developers, and the Bank to complete their documentation and other mortgage requirements. He assured them of a transparent and efficient processing system, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to address Nigeria's housing challenge effectively.

FMBN is broadening its housing finance offerings with initiatives, including its recently launched Diaspora Mortgage Loan and a planned Rent Assistance Product. These initiatives aim to respond to changing housing needs and provide more opportunities for Nigerians to access affordable housing. The Bank's efforts are geared towards making homeownership a reality for more Nigerians through innovative financing solutions.

The partnership between FMBN and NMDPRA is a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of Nigerian workers. With the allocation of 430 housing units, more workers will have access to affordable housing, and the initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of NMDPRA workers and their families.
