Guinea's Energy Minister, Laye Sékou Camara, has commended the certification of Electricité de Guinée (EDG) with the ISO 9001 version 2015 standard. This achievement marks a significant step in EDG's modernization efforts. The certification ceremony was held on September 24, 2026, and was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from the French standards organization AFNOR, the Africa Competence consulting firm, and international funders.
Minister Camara, who initiated the certification process when he was at the helm of EDG, expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the project under the current management. He praised his successor, Elhadj Gando Barry, for his efforts in driving the certification process forward. The minister noted that the certification demonstrates the continuity of management and the commitment to improving the public electricity service in Guinea.
The ISO 9001 certification focuses on the commercial segment of EDG's operations. Minister Camara emphasized that the primary objective of this certification is to instill a culture of work with clear requirements and expectations. He acknowledged the perseverance of the Africa Competence consulting firm and its director, Anselme W. Sam, who worked closely with EDG over three years to achieve this goal.
The certification is not a one-time achievement, but rather a continuous process. Minister Camara stressed that the real challenge lies in maintaining the certification through regular audits and assessments. He urged EDG to continue its efforts to improve its services and prepare for future recertification.
Minister Camara also highlighted the importance of extending the excellence initiative to other critical areas of EDG's operations, particularly in distribution. He emphasized that the distribution segment has a direct impact on the population and that certifying it would be a significant achievement. The minister expressed his confidence that EDG can achieve this goal in the near future.
In addition to the certification, EDG has launched a mobile application, e-EDG, which allows customers to manage their accounts, recharge their prepaid meters, and report network incidents. Minister Camara welcomed this technological innovation, which aims to improve customer service and enhance the overall efficiency of EDG's operations.
The minister concluded by emphasizing that the certification and the launch of the mobile application are part of a broader strategy to modernize EDG and improve the electricity service in Guinea. He encouraged EDG to continue its efforts to innovate and improve its services, with a focus on meeting the needs of its customers and contributing to the country's economic development.
