Egyptian Health Minister Khalid Abdel Ghaffar conducted a field visit to Cairo to inspect the construction progress of Bolak Abu El-Ela Hospital and the Nile Medical City. The visit aimed to monitor the implementation rates and address any challenges. The minister emphasized the importance of adhering to the project timelines to ensure the facilities are operational as soon as possible. He was accompanied by officials from Wadi El-Nile company and several ministry leaders.
The minister began his tour by inspecting Bolak Abu El-Ela Hospital, where he reviewed the project's current status. The project started in April 2022 and has achieved 48.5% completion in its first phase, with an expected completion date in April 2027. The hospital will feature 220 beds, including 145 for inpatient care, 55 for intensive care, and 20 for nurseries. Additionally, it will have nine operating rooms, 66 outpatient clinics, and 19 dialysis units.
Minister Abdel Ghaffar stressed the need to accelerate the construction pace and allocate necessary resources to overcome any obstacles. This will enable the hospital to provide comprehensive medical services to citizens promptly. The project aims to enhance the healthcare system's capacity and quality.
The minister then visited the Nile Medical City, also known as the Nasser Institute, which spans 138,000 square meters. The project has reached 53% completion and is expected to be finished by July 2027. The medical city is designed to support Egypt's efforts in promoting medical tourism and attracting patients from abroad.
The Nile Medical City project will significantly increase the city's healthcare capacity upon completion. The number of beds will rise from 682 to 1,702, with inpatient beds increasing from 547 to 1,276 and intensive care beds from 125 to 331. The facility will also expand its services, including dialysis, outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and chemotherapy.
During his visit, the minister inspected various buildings within the medical city, noting that some have achieved significant completion rates. These include the doctors' residential areas, which are nearly complete, and the hospital's new building. He also reviewed the project's timeline and directed the acceleration of work in certain areas.
The minister also inspected the construction of El-Nile Children's Hospital, which will provide 306 beds on a 28,400 square meter site at an estimated cost of 1.77 billion Egyptian pounds. The hospital will offer specialized medical services for children, further enhancing Egypt's healthcare capabilities.
