The 15th annual conference of Burkina Faso's General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) concluded in Ouagadougou on September 24, 2026. The event, presided over by Minister of Economy and Finance Aboubakar Nacanabo, brought together participants to discuss the theme "Building the DGI of Tomorrow: Levers for a More Efficient Tax Administration Serving National Sovereignty." The discussions focused on creating a more efficient tax administration capable of mobilizing national resources effectively.

The conference led to the adoption of three major resolutions. The first involves reviewing the organization's structure, procedures, and texts to identify areas for simplification and improvement. The second resolution focuses on developing leadership, accountability, and competency valuation to define clear expectations for results, management, and performance. The third resolution aims to integrate artificial intelligence into tax management, risk analysis, control, and revenue security.

Two recommendations were also formulated during the conference. The first concerns strengthening secure interconnection with external databases useful for tax assessment, control, and collection. The second recommendation involves providing the necessary human, technological, and budgetary resources for the DGI's transformation. Minister Nacanabo expressed satisfaction with the quality of the exchanges and adopted resolutions.

According to Minister Nacanabo, the DGI of the future must be more than just a revenue collection administration. It should be agile, capable of anticipating economic, technological, and social changes, and modern, with an organization and procedures that evolve with contemporary challenges. The DGI should also be innovative, leveraging digital transformation and artificial intelligence while remaining citizen-centric and inspiring trust through its services and professionalism.

The Minister emphasized that the DGI of the future will be digital, intelligent, and efficient but must remain profoundly human. He invited tax administration agents to continue their efforts towards innovation and performance. DGI Director-General Talato Eliane Djiguemdé/Ouédraogo highlighted that the conference reaffirmed the importance of human capital in achieving performance.

Djiguemdé/Ouédraogo noted that human capital and technology go hand-in-hand, requiring a clear vision, competencies, and adaptability. She also emphasized that fiscal performance is inextricably linked to national sovereignty, as increased domestic resource mobilization enables the state to finance its priorities and make development choices.

The Director-General concluded that the conference has initiated a new dynamic, with a clear trajectory defined for building the future tax administration. She expressed enthusiasm for the prospect of constructing the DGI of tomorrow, leveraging the skills of its personnel and available tools.
