Nigeria's Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to lead the campaign machinery in Abuja and Rivers State to drive President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid. Wike made this disclosure in Chikuku, Abuja, after inspecting the ongoing construction of Phase two of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project. He stated that he would personally lead the campaign effort in the nation's capital and extend the re-election operations to his home state of Rivers.
According to Wike, political parties across the spectrum are organising their ranks, and supporters of President Tinubu are fully prepared to initiate an aggressive campaign. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign, and Wike believes that all elements of the APC are ready, including the President. Wike's announcement comes as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
Wike expressed confidence that the administration's infrastructure record would secure victory across board in the FCT, including support for Sen. Philip Aduda and the two House of Representatives seats. He stated that it is very obvious that nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT, as the 'rigging' is the projects being delivered, making the people happy. Wike commended both the contractor and site engineers for the progress recorded so far on the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project.
The Minister assured stakeholders that adequate funding would be disbursed to guarantee completion of the project by December. He emphasised that delivering functional infrastructure remains the cornerstone of good governance and public satisfaction. Wike added that the essence of governance is to make people happy, and when the people are happy, those in authority are happy.
Wike also addressed critics and political opponents, arguing that visible development projects would serve as the main driver for electoral support in the FCT. He dismissed allegations of electoral malpractice ahead of time, stating that people are happy and that he doesn’t know who will contest against President Tinubu as far as this election is concerned.
The Minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for providing sustained support for capital projects in the territory. He noted that it is his first time getting to the side of the road under construction and was impressed by the high population in the area. Wike's comments reflect the government's efforts to improve infrastructure and governance in the FCT.
Wike will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which he will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, and the Minister stated that the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people are a testament to the government's efforts.
