The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike, has been given a defined role in the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. Wike, the former Rivers State governor, was appointed as coordinator of the campaign structure in Rivers State and the FCT. He confirmed the story, saying he would spearhead the campaign machinery for the re-election of President Tinubu in the 2027 election in his home state of Rivers and the FCT.
Wike disclosed this information in Chikuku, in the Kuje Area Council of the FCT, where he inspected the ongoing Kuje-Gwagwalada Road dualisation project. The minister added that all of President Tinubu's political affiliations and supporters were also putting their ranks in place to initiate an aggressive campaign. According to Wike, the ruling All Progressives Congress is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.
Wike stated that for those supporting President Tinubu from different political platforms, they have put their machinery in place to fully kickstart the campaign. He mentioned that very soon, he will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which he will lead. Wike expressed enthusiasm, saying all elements of the APC are ready, and Mr. President is ready.
The FCT Minister explained that the visible development projects would serve as the main driver for electoral support in the FCT. He said people are happy, and he doesn’t know who will contest against Mr. President as far as this election is concerned. Wike emphasized that this is governance, and this is what people expect, adding that it will translate directly into actual votes.
Wike downplayed allegations of rigging, boasting that the administration's infrastructure record would secure victory across board in the FCT. He mentioned support for the APC senatorial candidate, Sen. Philip Aduda, and the two House of Representatives seats. According to Wike, it is very obvious that nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT.
The FCT Minister commended both the contractor and site engineers for the progress recorded so far and assured stakeholders that adequate funding would be disbursed to guarantee project completion by December. Wike also emphasized that the 'rigging' is the projects they are delivering, making the people happy.
Wike retains his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. The minister's new role in Tinubu's re-election campaign comes as a surprise to many, given his past affiliation with the PDP.
