Dr. Sunusi Abubakar Mayana, the WHO representative in Kano, and Dr. Muhammadu Damish, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative in Kano, led the commendation. Dr. Mayana emphasized that the role of development partners is to support and mobilize resources needed to implement government programs and policies, not to compete with the government. He noted that the recruitment demonstrates the Governor's commitment to delivering results and addressing critical gaps in the health sector.
The WHO representative also commended the Kano state government for working through established systems and institutions. He stressed that sustainable development requires building systems that will continue to deliver results beyond the present administration. This approach ensures that the progress made in the health sector is long-lasting and not dependent on individual administrations.
Dr. Muhammadu Damish, the UNICEF representative, commended the state government for investing in human resources and strengthening healthcare delivery. He described the recruitment as an important step towards improving access to quality healthcare services. The increased workforce is expected to have a positive impact on healthcare delivery across the state.
The chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) also lauded Governor Yusuf for transforming primary healthcare facilities and upgrading major secondary healthcare institutions. They described the reforms as an investment in the future of healthcare delivery in Kano, adding that generations of citizens would benefit from the improvements.
