Starting from Tuesday, October 6, 2026, several areas in Greater Tunis are experiencing disruptions and interruptions in their potable water supply. The Société nationale d'exploitation et de distribution des eaux (SONEDE) announced that these disruptions will last for 36 hours. The affected areas include several neighborhoods in the delegations of La Marsa, Le Kram, Carthage, El Khadhra, La Goulette, and La Soukra.

According to SONEDE, the disruptions are a result of emergency works to relocate a main water distribution pipe with a diameter of 1,000 millimeters. The pipe was found to be in the way of flood protection works in the La Marsa region and the covering of the Ettabak wadi bed at Ibn Rachiq Street in Baher Lazreg. The relocation of the pipe has become necessary to allow the continuation of the flood protection project.

In La Marsa, the affected neighborhoods include Bou Selsela and Borj El Khok, as well as Ettabak, El Hokkèm, Sidi Daoud, and Baher Lazreg. The disruptions in Le Kram will affect Le Kram Ouest, the Jardins de Carthage, and Aïn Zaghouan Nord and Sud. In Carthage, the Mohamed Ali and Carthage Byrsa neighborhoods are also affected. Additionally, the Berges du Lac 1 area in El Khadhra and Berges du Lac 2, Taïeb Mhiri, El Wahat, Essalama, and L’Aouina in La Goulette will experience disruptions.

The Dar Fadhal neighborhood in La Soukra is also among the affected areas. SONEDE has assured that the water supply will be progressively restored starting from 1 pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The company apologizes for any inconvenience caused and is working to minimize the impact of the disruptions.

The flood protection works aim to protect the La Marsa region from potential floods. The project involves several measures, including the covering of the Ettabak wadi bed. The relocation of the water pipe is a necessary step to ensure the project's completion within the planned timeline.

SONEDE has urged residents to take necessary precautions and manage their water resources efficiently during the disruption period. The company has also assured that it is working to complete the relocation of the pipe as quickly as possible to restore normal water supply services.

The disruptions serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining and upgrading the region's infrastructure. The completion of the flood protection project is expected to improve the region's resilience to flooding and ensure a safer environment for residents.
