The Writers Association of The Gambia (WAG) marked Gambia Literature Day 2026 on September 26, celebrating poet and literary critic Juka Fatou Jabang. Jabang thanked Allah and WAG for the honour, saying that two words summarize her guiding principles: sacrifice and selflessness. She expressed her gratitude for being honoured while still alive, saying it reminds her that her contributions have not been lost. Jabang also recalled her early love for literature, tracing it back to her time at St. Joseph's School and Fourah Bay College in the 1970s.
