The third edition of "Cinema Jat" is set to kick off in Tunisia's Jundubah governorate on September 30 and will run until October 11. This cinematic event will travel to various cities and villages in the region, bringing the seventh art form out of traditional halls and into schools, squares, and open spaces. The event is organized in partnership with the "Cinema Tour" initiative, the European Union mission, and local authorities.
The event features a range of activities, including free and open cinematic screenings, artistic and training workshops, and activities for children, young people, and people with disabilities. The program includes screenings of Tunisian and European films, as well as films for children and young people. Additionally, there will be workshops on cinema, theater, and drawing, as well as virtual reality experiences and photography activities in public spaces.
The event's activities will begin in Jundubah with a workshop on theater and peace for people with disabilities and limited mobility. The official opening will take place in Jundubah North, featuring a performance by the Polish folk group "La Compagnie". The cinematic truck will then travel to various locations, including Jundubah North, Ghar El-Damam, Fernana, and Beny Matir.
The program also includes training sessions on seventh art techniques for around 2,500 students, as well as activities for people with disabilities and the deaf. Furthermore, there will be events for the European Film Festival, live art performances, meetings, and awareness-raising workshops. The event aims to bring cinema closer to the population, especially in areas where there are no screening rooms.
According to event coordinator Khaloud Al-Mili, the diverse program reflects the organizers' desire to make "Cinema Jat" more than just a film screening event. The event combines cinema with artistic, training, and interactive activities, targeting various groups, particularly children, young people, and people with disabilities.
The cinematic selections include a mix of Tunisian and European films, as well as short and feature-length films, allowing the audience to discover different cinematic experiences and perspectives. This edition follows the first edition held in the city of Tabarka in 2025, and "Cinema Jat" returns to Jundubah with the idea of bringing cinema to as many residents as possible and turning schools, cultural spaces, and open squares into meeting and leisure points.
