The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Moaming Yuantian Food Co., Ltd., a Chinese firm that processes 150,000kg of tilapia daily. The deal aims to develop large-scale fish farming in the Volta Basin. The MoU was signed by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, during an investment mission to China organised by Ghana's Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu. Moaming Yuantian is one of China's largest tilapia production and processing operations. The company runs over 260,000 tilapia ponds and exports its products to more than 70 countries. Its processing facilities can handle 150,000 kilogrammes of tilapia a day across nine production lines. The company's output reaches roughly one in every seven people in China. This partnership is expected to reshape aquaculture in the Volta Region, creating thousands of new jobs and boosting local fish supply.
