Nigerian striker Gift Orban has moved ahead of compatriot Victor Osimhen in the Turkish Süper Lig goalscoring chart after continuing his remarkable start to the 2026/27 campaign with another goal for Amedspor. Orban found the net as Amedspor defeated Beşiktaş 3-2 on Sunday, taking his league tally to seven goals in six appearances. This impressive start has seen him move level with Trabzonspor forward Mohamed Salah at the top of the scoring standings.
Orban once again proved decisive for Amedspor as the newly promoted side secured an impressive 3-2 victory over Beşiktaş at the Diyarbakır Stadium. The Nigerian opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a powerful effort after Amedspor applied pressure in the attacking third. His finish gave the hosts an early advantage and continued his remarkable scoring sequence in the Turkish top flight.
The goal against Beşiktaş means Orban has now scored seven times in six Süper Lig appearances since arriving in Turkey. His current run represents a significant turnaround for the 24-year-old, who had struggled to maintain the extraordinary scoring rate that first brought him widespread attention during his time at Belgian club Gent. Orban had earlier scored against Trabzonspor before finding the net twice against Kasımpaşa.
Orban’s rise has also changed the position of the two Nigerians on the Turkish scoring chart. Osimhen had initially established himself at the top after scoring six goals in his first four league appearances for Galatasaray. However, the Galatasaray forward has been sidelined by an adductor injury sustained during the club’s 3-2 victory over Başakşehir. He subsequently missed Galatasaray’s league fixture against Kocaelispor and was also unavailable for the club’s trip to Trabzonspor.
Although Orban has overtaken Osimhen, he is not the outright leader of the Turkish goalscoring race. Salah also reached seven goals after his outstanding performance against Galatasaray. The Egyptian scored three times as Trabzonspor defeated the reigning Turkish champions 4-0, taking his league tally to seven. The current standings therefore put Salah and Orban on seven goals each, with Osimhen one goal behind on six.
Orban’s goals have also coincided with an impressive start by Amedspor following their promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig. The club entered the campaign as a newly promoted side but has quickly adapted to the demands of the top division. Their victory over Beşiktaş lifted them to 13 points and sent them into the international break at the top of the league table.
Orban’s current form represents a sharp contrast to the difficulties he experienced after leaving Gent. The striker scored 28 goals and provided two assists in 44 appearances for Gent, performances that earned him a move to French giants Lyon in January 2024. His time in France, however, proved difficult, as he scored five goals in 21 appearances before moving to Hoffenheim in Germany in January 2025.
