Makao Kwetu Creative, a company based in Lusaka, Zambia, has posted a job advertisement for a Project & Tender Engineer. The Project & Tender Engineer will spend 60% of their time on project management and site work, and 40% on tenders and estimating. Key responsibilities will include interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, monitoring works against drawings and specifications, and tracking construction progress against programme. The engineer will also be responsible for identifying delays, risks, and technical problems, and driving corrective action. Additionally, they will need to coordinate consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors, and maintain accurate project documentation.
In terms of tenders and estimating, the engineer will be responsible for identifying relevant construction and engineering tender opportunities, reviewing tender documents, and assessing technical requirements. They will also need to prepare preliminary estimates and cost build-ups, obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, and compile complete tender submissions. The engineer will need to understand what the company is bidding for, how it will be built, what resources it requires, and what risks are involved.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related discipline, as well as 3-6 years of practical construction experience. Demonstrable site experience, project management experience, and experience preparing or coordinating construction tenders are also essential. Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and project reporting skills are required, as well as strong written and verbal communication.
The ideal candidate will be able to manage contractors and site teams, and be willing to travel and work on sites across Zambia. A valid driving license is strongly preferred. Advantage will be given to candidates who are registered or eligible for registration with relevant engineering professional bodies in Zambia, and who have experience with construction contracts and contract administration.
