The project represents an initial investment of $5 million and marks Aksa Composites' first establishment on the African continent.
The establishment of Aksa Composites in Tunisia is the result of efforts by the Tunisian aerospace ecosystem, particularly Gitas, led by its president, Stefania Sonia Dallali. The process began with initial contacts at the Hamburg Aviation Forum 2025, followed by several discussions and meetings aimed at introducing the company to Tunisia's industrial capabilities, its network of subcontractors, and its integration into international aerospace value chains.
Gitas played a crucial role in identifying and connecting with the Turkish investor, highlighting the organization's mission to bring international industrial players closer to the Tunisian ecosystem and promote new investment and cooperation opportunities in aerospace and space. Dallali emphasized the significance of Aksa Composites' arrival in Tunisia, demonstrating the confidence gained by the Tunisian aerospace sector over the past few decades.
The Tunisian aerospace sector has progressively integrated into international value chains, with a network of over 80 companies and a strong export orientation. The sector's strengths include the quality of its skills, proximity to Europe, industrial flexibility, and an existing ecosystem of suppliers, making it an attractive destination for new investments. The partnership between Gitas and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (Fipa-Tunisia) was instrumental in facilitating the investment.
Fipa-Tunisia provided institutional support and accompanied the project through its various stages, participating in discussions on site selection, implantation conditions, and the necessary steps to concretize the investment. A meeting organized by Fipa on May 19, 2026, confirmed the project and continued discussions around its implementation in Tunisia. The signature of the industrial lease at Borj Cédria marks the culmination of a process involving multiple stakeholders from the Tunisian ecosystem.
Through this establishment, Aksa Composites aims to develop an industrial activity focused on composite materials and aerospace applications. The company already possesses international expertise in composite materials and industrial operations for the aerospace and high-performance sectors. It has also developed collaborations with several major international aerospace industry players. The future Borj Cédria site is expected to be the starting point for progressive industrial development in Tunisia.
The investment is expected to create several dozen direct jobs and drive technology transfer, local skills development, and Tunisia's strengthened position in international value chains for advanced materials and aerospace. The project's operational launch is anticipated around 2028.
