On Monday, November 2, 2026, Tunisian President Kais Saied met with the head of the National Reconciliation Committee, Ali Abbas, to discuss the committee's recent progress. The meeting focused on the committee's activities since the issuance of Decree No. 2 of 2026, which amends Decree No. 13 of 2022 related to reconciliation and the use of its proceeds. The President emphasized his commitment to recovering Tunisian citizens' funds in full.
President Saied noted that the initiative faced attempts to undermine and disrupt its progress since its inception. However, his determination to recover the Tunisian people's money led to the issuance of the first decree, followed by amendments in the recent decree to improve mechanisms and procedures. He stressed that flexibility in reconciliation procedures does not compromise the principles and constants or represent a waiver of the Tunisian people's rights.
The President highlighted the importance of reassuring the Tunisian people and achieving their legitimate aspirations. He emphasized the need to restore confidence in the ability to recover their funds and protect their rights. At the same time, he offered an opportunity for those who made mistakes to reconsider their positions and return to the right path, away from extortion, bargaining, and manipulation.
President Saied reiterated that there is no room for tolerance or concession regarding a single dinar of the Tunisian people's money. He emphasized that the people have suffered greatly and made significant sacrifices, and it is their right to recover their funds and have their wealth and resources used to serve their interests.
The President added that the doors remain open for those who have come to their senses. However, those who rely on the passage of time to resolve the issue will realize that the people's rights do not expire and cannot be erased, whether the funds are within or outside the country. He emphasized that rights remain rights, regardless of time, and that it is not a justification for waiving the duty to recover them.
President Saied's meeting with the National Reconciliation Committee head comes amid various efforts to address the country's challenges. Recently, the Ministry of Employment reported that nearly 70% of vocational training graduates were integrated into the job market within three years of graduation. Additionally, the President has been monitoring the progress of several infrastructure projects.
The Tunisian government is also preparing for the upcoming budget discussions, with the first public sessions scheduled for November 9 and 10, 2026. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Tunisia reported that the average interest rate in the money market remained stable at 7% during October 2026.
