Tunisian Education Minister conducted a working visit to Sfax on September 22, 2026, to assess the readiness of educational institutions for the new academic year. During the visit, the minister announced several measures to improve the educational infrastructure in the region. These measures aim to enhance the learning environment and address the challenges faced by students and teachers.
The minister instructed the regional education authorities to accelerate the implementation of maintenance and construction projects in several schools and institutions. This includes the second phase of the maintenance program for the Al-Halalfa elementary school in Al-Hancha, which will provide new furniture and equipment. Additionally, a comprehensive maintenance program will be developed for the Al-Barmaki institute in Manzel Chaker, including the renovation of sports facilities.
The minister also authorized the creation of a second section at the Al-Saadi preparatory school in Al-Amira, following the completion of the project's final acceptance procedures. Furthermore, a sports hall and an artificial turf field will be built at the Al-Marrakb educational complex in Al-Awabed, Sfax South. The minister also instructed the preparation of studies for the expansion of the institution and the provision of sports equipment at the elementary school in the same complex.
For institutions under the regional education authority of Sfax 1, the minister allocated funds for a comprehensive intervention program at the November 15, 1955 institute in Sfax City. The program includes the renovation of school spaces, courtyards, and main entrances, as well as the provision of information technology equipment and air conditioning for the teachers' room. The minister also authorized the preparation of studies for a comprehensive maintenance program at the preparatory school in Aqrab.
The minister urged the contractors responsible for the construction of the preparatory school in Bir Ali Ben Khalifa to accelerate the work to complete the project by the end of the current year. The minister also instructed the preparation of a technical study for the various components of the institution and a feasibility study for the establishment of an elementary school within the institution's premises.
During the visit, the minister visited several educational institutions, including the Al-Halalfa elementary school, where he participated in the flag-raising ceremony and observed the school's experience in utilizing the pedagogical farm, model library, and multi-purpose hall. The minister praised the efforts made by the administration and teaching staff to develop these spaces and utilize them for the benefit of students.
The minister emphasized the importance of coordination between various stakeholders to ensure a smooth start to the academic year and provide a safe and supportive learning environment. The minister was accompanied by the Governor of Sfax, Mohamed Hajri, and the regional education authorities of Sfax 1 and Sfax 2, as well as several central and regional education officials.
