The medical examinations for Tunisian candidates for Hajj will commence on Thursday, 24 September 2026, and will run until 31 October 2026. According to Bouchra Sbaei, Director of Hajj and Umrah Organization at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, these exams will be conducted across five regions. The process is designed to assess the health of candidates before they embark on their pilgrimage.
The medical exams will be distributed across various centers. The first region, which includes the governorates of Bajah, Jendouba, Kef, and Bizerte, will conduct exams at the intermediate center in Qasr Bardou, Bajah. The second region, covering Tunis, Ariana, Manouba, Ben Arous, Bizerte, Nabul, and Zaghouan, will hold exams at the Youth Cultural and Sports Center in Ben Arous.
For the third region, which comprises the governorates of Kairouan, Sousse, Mahdia, Sidi Bouzid, and Kasserine, exams will take place at the School of Health in Kairouan. Candidates from the fourth region, including Sfax, Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa, and Tozeur, will undergo exams at the Basic Health Center on Tariq Qabes in Sfax. Meanwhile, the fifth region, which includes Gabes, Medenine, Tataouine, and Kebili, will have exams at the Basic Health Center in Bab Bhar, Gabes.
Bouchra Sbaei advised candidates to inform medical staff about any diseases they have and medications they are taking. Certain conditions, such as heart and artery diseases, lung diseases, and some chronic illnesses, may prevent individuals from performing Hajj rituals. Sbaei emphasized the importance of this information to ensure the well-being of pilgrims during their journey.
Candidates who fail to attend these medical exams by 31 October 2026 will be considered as having withdrawn. Their places will be filled by candidates from the waiting list. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has sent short messages to approximately 20,000 pilgrims, half of whom are on the waiting list.
For the 2027 Hajj season, Tunisia has 9,982 registered pilgrims, in addition to 1,000 pilgrims sponsored from abroad. However, the cost of Hajj for this season has not yet been determined. The Ministry is working on finalizing the pricing.
The organization of Hajj this year reflects the Tunisian government's efforts to ensure that pilgrims have a smooth and safe experience. With medical exams underway, authorities aim to address health concerns proactively, allowing pilgrims to focus on their spiritual journey.
