The International Francophone Federation for Clinical Biology and Laboratory Medicine has elected Tunisia as its president, 19 years after its founding in Hammamet. This development was announced in a statement by the Tunisian Union of Private Biologists. The election of Tunisia to this position is seen as a recognition of the country's standing in the field of medical biology within the Francophone community.
The federation, which was established on May 11, 2007, in Hammamet, brings together professional associations and unions of medical biology from the Francophone world. It currently comprises 17 scientific associations from nine countries across three continents, including Algeria, France, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia. The organization's primary objective is to utilize the Francophone network as a platform for exchanging ideas among professionals in clinical biology.
The Tunisian Union of Private Biologists announced that Ms. Manal Chaaban has been elected as the president of the federation, while Mr. Yasser Qalai has been appointed as the deputy secretary-general, both representing the Tunisian Association of Clinical Biology. Additionally, Dr. Khalil Ben Abdallah, president of the Tunisian Union of Private Biologists, has been elected as the representative of associate members.
This new presidency is significant for Tunisia, as the country, one of the founding members, now holds three seats on the federation's bureau. This development is seen as an acknowledgment of the country's medical biology sector and the collaborative efforts of biologists in both the public and private sectors.
The Tunisian Union of Private Biologists stated that the presidency will coincide with the organization of the Fourth National Conference for Medical Biology, scheduled to take place in Hammamet on November 6-7. The conference, organized under the auspices of the federation, will bring together over 300 biologists and delegates from Algeria, Morocco, and France.
The first event under Tunisia's presidency will be the Second Tunisian Forum for Medical Biology, scheduled for April 28-30, 2027. The forum, co-organized by the Tunisian Association of Clinical Biology, the Tunisian Union of Private Biologists, and the federation, aims to bring together Tunisian and Francophone biologists from both public and private sectors.
The International Francophone Federation for Clinical Biology and Laboratory Medicine aims to promote the exchange of ideas among professionals in clinical biology, with a focus on training, quality of analysis, and public health.
