The Tunisian Ministry of Defense has clarified its stance on proposed changes to the route of regional road 72 in the Kef governorate. According to the ministry, four proposed scenarios put forth by the Ministry of Equipment and Housing do not generally pose problems. This is due to the absence of sensitive areas in the project zone. The clarification was made in response to a written question from a member of parliament.

The proposed road project aims to connect the cities of Tiwirf and Kef. The Ministry of Defense was approached by the Ministry of Equipment and Housing on December 19, 2019, to provide its opinion on the proposed scenarios. In response, the Ministry of Defense suggested adopting the first scenario, which is 9.9 kilometers long. This route passes near a dam, enhancing precautions against potential risks.

The member of parliament who posed the question, Imad Al-Sadiri, noted that the Ministry of Defense initially proposed a new route that would add 21 kilometers to the initial route. This new route would be more costly for travelers, vehicle owners, and public transportation users. The parliament member also mentioned that a public consultation was launched, and the fourth scenario, which is 7 kilometers long, was chosen as the most suitable and secure option.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized that it did not propose a new route, as there was no justification for doing so. The ministry also stated that it had not received any requests or written proposals regarding the project since February 27, 2020. At that time, the ministry had expressed its preference for the first scenario.

The Ministry of Equipment and Housing had prepared four scenarios for changing the route of regional road 72, with lengths ranging from 9.9 to 11 kilometers. The proposed changes aim to improve the road network and ensure safer travel for users.

The clarification provided by the Ministry of Defense aims to shed light on its role in the project and address concerns raised by the parliament member and the public. The ministry's statement emphasizes its commitment to national security and the well-being of citizens.

The project has sparked interest among locals and stakeholders, who are eager to see improvements to the road network in the region. The Ministry of Defense's clarification is expected to help move the project forward, ensuring that the needs of all parties involved are taken into account.
