The Centre de formation et d’appui à la décentralisation (CFAD) recently organized a seminar in Sousse, Tunisia, focused on "Sustainable Cities by 2030." The event aimed to promote comprehensive territorial development, ecological transition, and improved quality of life in Tunisian communes. The seminar was attended by high-ranking officials from various regions, including secretaries general and cadres from Siliana, Sousse, Kasserine, Kairouan, Monastir, and Mahdia.

The seminar, held in partnership with the "Gouvernance et développement territorial" laboratory, brought together representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Planning, Environment, and researchers. The main objective was to present the current development plan as a driver for real, comprehensive, and equitable development. This includes improving living conditions and enhancing human capital, particularly in regional areas.

According to the CFAD, the seminar is part of a regional cycle aimed at preparing communes for sustainable development. The plan focuses on adapting to climate change, improving urban expansion governance, and linking academic research to practical applications in sustainable urban development. This initiative seeks to address environmental and social challenges faced by Tunisian cities.

The event specifically targeted the third group of regions, engaging local authorities and stakeholders in discussions on sustainable development. By sharing experiences and expertise, participants aimed to identify effective strategies for implementing sustainable development plans at the local level. This approach enables communes to address specific regional needs and challenges.

Tunisia's development plan for 2026-2030 emphasizes the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection. The CFAD's initiative aligns with these goals, providing a platform for local authorities to engage with experts and policymakers.
