The International Marine Products Exhibition, CONXEMAR 2026, kicked off in Vigo, Spain, with Tunisia's participation to promote its national products in international markets. The exhibition, which runs until October 8, features a Tunisian pavilion covering nearly 50 square meters, showcasing various marine products from four national institutions involved in exporting seafood and aquaculture products.
The Tunisian participation, according to a statement by the Joint Professional Association for Marine Products, includes displaying a variety of seafood products such as shrimp, octopus, squid, and frozen fish, as well as value-added products like blue crab and its derivatives, and aquaculture products. The opening day saw a visit from a formal delegation to the Tunisian pavilion, including the President of the Galicia region, the Mayor of Vigo, and the President of CONXEMAR.
The goal of Tunisia's participation in CONXEMAR is to highlight the quality and diversity of Tunisian products, enhance their presence in the Spanish market, and develop trade relations with international buyers and importers. It also aims to explore new export, partnership, and investment opportunities, and to support processed and value-added products, as well as introduce Tunisian aquaculture products and demonstrate their ability to meet international market demands.
This year's Tunisian participation marks the first time an institution specializing in fish farming, marketing, and export is taking part, alongside three institutions involved in exporting frozen seafood products. This reflects the diversity of activities among participating Tunisian institutions and the evolution of aquaculture products destined for external markets.
CONXEMAR is a specialized international event for marine products, serving as a platform for professional and commercial meetings between institutions, importers, buyers, and international operators. It offers Tunisian institutions the opportunity to explore possibilities for new partnerships and develop their exports. The exhibition is significant for Tunisia, given the importance of the seafood sector within the food export system.
In the first seven months of 2026, Tunisian seafood exports reached approximately 18.4 thousand tons, valued at 422.3 million dinars, despite a 4.8% decline in export value compared to the same period in 2025. The trade balance for seafood products showed a surplus of 92.6 million dinars, with a coverage ratio of 125%. Tunisian products are directed towards 38 markets, with Italy accounting for 34% of exports, followed by Spain at 12%, and Libya at 11%.
The participation in CONXEMAR 2026 underscores Tunisia's commitment to enhancing its presence in international markets, particularly in Spain, which is the second-largest destination for Tunisian seafood and aquaculture exports. By showcasing its diverse range of high-quality products, Tunisia aims to strengthen its position and explore new opportunities for growth and collaboration in the global seafood industry.
