On Tuesday, October 7, 2026, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, decorated 19 out of 22 officers who were promoted from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP). The ceremony took place at the IGP's office in Accra. The promotions were approved by President John Dramani Mahama. Dr. Yohuno attributed the promotions to the officers' dedication, commitment, and years of service to the Ghana Police Service.

According to Dr. Yohuno, the promoted officers had served for a minimum of four years in their previous rank and demonstrated diligence in discharging their responsibilities. He emphasized that the elevation to DCOP was significant as the officers would take up regional-level and other senior positions within the Police Service. The IGP expressed gratitude to President Mahama for approving the promotions, stating that the elevation would motivate the officers to work harder in support of the Service's efforts to combat crime.

Dr. Yohuno urged the newly promoted DCOPs to ensure that Ghanaians enjoyed peace and security and were able to go about their normal activities without fear of attacks. He noted that their new positions came with greater responsibilities and encouraged them to help improve the image of the Ghana Police Service. The IGP also charged the officers to intensify their efforts as the country approaches the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The IGP emphasized the need for the officers to work with other senior officers to ensure that the festive season passed without major criminal incidents. He urged them to redouble their efforts in the fight against crime, using their new ranks and responsibilities as motivation. Dr. Yohuno congratulated the officers and encouraged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through their promotion.

On behalf of the newly promoted officers, the DCOPs expressed gratitude to President Mahama for approving their promotion and to Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who also chairs the Police Council. They also thanked Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, members of the Police Council, the IGP, the Police Management Board (POMAB), and the Police Management Advisory Board for their support and confidence in their professional abilities.

The DCOPs accepted their elevation with humility and a renewed commitment to the Ghana Police Service and the people of Ghana.
