The EPP Gbangbalesso primary school in Togo's Dankpen commune has welcomed new infrastructure, including a three-classroom school building with an office and store, a six-stall latrine block, and a hand-powered water pump. The facilities were inaugurated on September 26 and were made possible through a collaboration between international NGO Aktion PiT Togohilfe, the Kuhlmann couple, and local NGO Action Développement Femmes et Enfants (ADEFE), with financial support from Hedi and Hans-Peter Fasel.
The new infrastructure was built to improve learning and hygiene conditions for students at the school. The facilities were constructed at a cost of 36.3 million FCFA. The school building provides a more suitable learning environment, protecting students from the elements. The hand-powered water pump ensures better access to clean water, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases. The latrine block enhances hygiene and sanitation conditions within the school.
The inauguration ceremony included the distribution of school bags and uniforms to students at EPP Gbangbalesso and the local kindergarten. Additionally, 21 top-performing female students from ten local primary schools received bicycles for excelling in the Certificate of Primary Education (CEPD) exam for the 2025-2026 session. This initiative aims to encourage and support outstanding female students in the region.
André Beguem Nagoudja, Executive Director of ADEFE, expressed gratitude to the partners for their trust and generosity in funding the project. He urged students to take care of the new infrastructure and to work hard to achieve good academic results. Nagoudja also called on parents to be involved in maintaining the facilities, particularly through the establishment of a committee to oversee the proper functioning and preservation of the water pump and latrine block.
Outoba Douwatanta, Dankpen's preschool and primary school inspector, noted that this support contributes to strengthening the education system in the prefecture. The new infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of education and the overall learning environment at EPP Gbangbalesso.
