Wife of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged the people of the South-East geo-political zone to support her husband’s re-election in 2027. She made the call at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, during a South-East women empowerment programme attended by governors, political leaders, and thousands of women. Senator Tinubu assured that Nigeria is transitioning from economic reforms to an era of prosperity.
Senator Tinubu announced fresh empowerment programmes for persons with disabilities and elderly citizens across the country. Specifically, 250 persons with disabilities in each senatorial district will receive N200,000 each on December 3, 2026, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This translates to 750 beneficiaries in each state. Additionally, an empowerment programme will be implemented for 250 elderly persons on December 17, 2026.
The interventions will be implemented through senators representing the respective districts. Senator Tinubu emphasized that the administration is combining political mobilisation with practical empowerment. She encouraged Nigerians to support the APC at all levels in the 2027 elections, assuring that the wait for prosperity is over.
Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, noted that the South-East had experienced marginalisation and underdevelopment over the years. However, he argued that the Tinubu administration had expanded development opportunities in the region, citing road construction, electricity, water supply, and educational interventions as evidence of progress.
Enugu state governor, Dr Peter Mbah, disclosed that over 2,000 women had benefited from empowerment programmes in Enugu within 48 hours. Another 5,000 women are being targeted across the South-East through the First Lady’s initiative. Mbah emphasized that the programme aims to make women economically productive rather than dependent on handouts.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also called for support for Tinubu, citing the establishment of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) as an important step towards addressing the region’s developmental challenges. He dismissed claims of an alleged agreement that the South-East would serve only one four-year presidential term when it eventually produces Nigeria’s president.
Other dignitaries, including the wife of the Senate President, Mrs Unoma Godswill Akpabio, and Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite, commended the administration’s women empowerment initiatives. Representing Anambra state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the deputy governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
