The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a six-hour interruption of electricity supply to parts of the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring areas on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This is to enable the company to carry out annual preventive maintenance at the Katampe 1 132/33kV transmission substation. The maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
The planned maintenance will cover the Katampe-Gwarinpa 132/33kV Line 2 bay switchgears and other associated equipment at the transmission substation. According to TCN, the exercise is necessary as part of its annual preventive maintenance programme aimed at maintaining transmission infrastructure and associated equipment to support the reliability and operational performance of the national electricity transmission network.
The maintenance exercise will affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to receive and distribute electricity to customers in several locations within the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas. TCN disclosed this in a notice signed by its management on Friday, September 25, 2026. The company apologised for any inconvenience this scheduled maintenance will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.
Areas expected to experience the power interruption include parts of Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Gwarinpa and Kubwa, as well as Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks, Jiwa and Suleja Township. Other affected locations are the Federal Capital Territory College of Education, Field Base, Madalla, Zuba and adjoining communities. The interruption would be limited to the duration of the scheduled maintenance.
During the maintenance exercise, work would be carried out on the transmission equipment serving the affected areas. TCN appealed to electricity consumers in the affected locations to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise. The company assured that the planned maintenance is part of its preventive intervention programme.
