Sudan's Minister of Animal Wealth, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tigani Al-Mansouri, has unveiled a plan to transform the country's livestock sector. The plan involves transitioning from exporting raw products to manufacturing and exporting them with added value. This includes exporting cooled and processed meats, dairy products, and processed hides. The goal is to convert Sudan's vast animal resources into a comprehensive productive industry.

The minister announced the plan during the opening of the Sudan Food Expo 2026 in Khartoum. The expo aims to showcase Sudan's export capabilities in agricultural and animal products. Al-Mansouri emphasized the importance of moving beyond exporting raw materials and achieving added value through manufacturing. He expressed hope that the expo will attract investments, build partnerships, and encourage Sudanese companies to expand their production and manufacturing projects.

As part of the plan, the ministry is working on establishing specialized cities for animal production. These cities will operate as integrated systems in designated locations, ensuring the involvement of small-scale producers. The ministry is currently preparing feasibility studies for four production complexes in collaboration with several banks. The goal is to increase productivity and create real job opportunities.

The ministry aims to significantly increase production levels. The target is to raise dairy production from 7 pounds to 100 pounds and increase meat production to 900 kilograms. Al-Mansouri stressed that the Sudan Food Expo 2026 is an indicator of the economic activity's return to Khartoum. It provides an opportunity to showcase Sudan's export capabilities in agricultural and animal products.

The minister also announced plans to establish production cities in the Nile River and Northern states. These locations were chosen due to their proximity to Gulf Cooperation Council markets, providing a competitive advantage, particularly in terms of lower transportation costs. Fifteen companies in the Nile River state have been qualified to work in exporting to external markets.

Other officials at the expo expressed their support for the plan. The minister of animal wealth in the Blue Nile region, Dr. Arfa Al-Sadek, emphasized the need to develop the sector and shift from focusing on increasing herd numbers to improving productivity and product quality. This will enhance Sudan's competitiveness in external markets.

The expo has been hailed as a success, with many expressing optimism about Sudan's economic future. The event has brought together producers, investors, and institutions, providing a platform for networking and exploring opportunities. The participants have called for addressing the challenges faced by producers, including high production costs and multiple fees.
