Sudan's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Madwi Musa, has presented the country's vision for rebuilding its higher education and scientific research sector at the STS Forum 2026 in Kyoto, Japan. The forum, which runs from October 4 to 6, brings together leaders, scientists, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world. Musa emphasized that "science diplomacy" can be a bridge for Sudan to recover and rebuild.

Musa highlighted that Sudan's participation in the forum aims to build strategic partnerships that will open up opportunities for Sudanese universities and research centers to engage more widely in digital transformation and the global scientific community. This comes as part of Sudan's efforts to recover from the effects of war and rebuild its institutions. The minister stressed that science, technology, and innovation are essential tools for supporting development and rebuilding higher education and research institutions.

During the forum, Musa reviewed Sudan's vision for restructuring the higher education and scientific research sector in the post-war phase. He discussed the measures being taken by the ministry to restore stability to the educational process and develop the institutional and technological infrastructure of universities and research centers. Musa also highlighted efforts to complete the technical and administrative arrangements for digital transformation and develop electronic services.

The minister emphasized that digital transformation is a key component of the ministry's strategy to modernize the higher education system and connect Sudanese educational and research institutions to the global scientific community. He called for expanding international partnerships with Sudanese universities and research centers, particularly in areas such as public health, vaccine development, and medical biotechnology.

On the sidelines of the forum, Musa held a series of bilateral meetings with officials, ministers of higher education and scientific research, and heads of universities and technological institutions from Japan and other countries. The meetings focused on opportunities to develop academic and research cooperation, exchange experiences, and build the capacities of Sudanese researchers and academic staff.

Musa stated that Sudan aims to transition from a phase of addressing the effects of war to a phase of building a more open and digitized higher education and scientific research system. This system should be capable of producing knowledge and enhancing Sudan's presence in the global scientific community. The minister's participation in the STS Forum 2026 is part of Sudan's efforts to expand its presence in international scientific platforms.
