Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), and his associates are reportedly threatening and blackmailing the owner of Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ms. Miriam Bakare Anike. They allegedly want her to alter her testimony and that of her workers regarding the incident where Sowore and his supporters were attacked. The restaurant owner has reportedly refused to give in to the pressure.

Recall that Sowore had alleged that he was attacked and kidnapped by unknown persons on October 30, 2026. He claimed that those persons were sponsored by the Ekiti State government and accused security agencies of providing his alleged attackers with logistics. However, the Nigerian Police Force released a statement clarifying that the issue was triggered by an altercation in the restaurant.

The police confirmed that they evacuated Sowore and some of his injured supporters to their hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment. Sowore also confirmed that he and his injured supporters received treatment at the police facility. The police dispelled rumors of his alleged abduction, saying they arrested some suspects who are aiding the investigation process.

A source close to the AAC presidential candidate revealed that Sowore is trying to blackmail the restaurant owner into releasing non-existent CCTV footage and other evidence that could favour him in the ongoing investigation. One of the workers related to Sowore has reportedly gone underground due to the pressure he is mounting on her to alter her initial testimony to the police.

Sowore has been making attempts to coerce the proprietress of Tawakalitu Restaurant to release the footage and other recordings of the incident by her workers to him. He has threatened to destroy her restaurant business if she fails to oblige him. The restaurant owner has maintained that the CCTV was faulty before the incident and has denied him access to phone video recordings of her workers.

The restaurant owner reportedly handed over the existing evidence to police investigators. A worker said that Sowore wants to access phone video recordings of some of her workers, which largely indicted him and his supporters. The worker added that Sowore has been making several attempts to coerce the proprietress into releasing the footage.

The incident has raised concerns about the credibility of Sowore's allegations and the ongoing investigation. The Nigerian Police Force is still investigating the incident, and some suspects have been arrested. Sowore's actions have been seen as an attempt to influence the investigation and distort evidence.
