The situation in Tizi-Ouzou province remains relatively stable amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On Sunday, two patients previously declared positive for COVID-19 were discharged from the Tizi-Ouzou University Hospital Center (CHU) after their test results came back negative. The patients, including a deputy, were among those whose results were confirmed by the Pasteur Institute. Two other individuals with negative test results were also allowed to return home.
However, the discharged patients are not yet considered fully recovered. According to the health protocol, a patient is only considered completely cured after two consecutive negative test results. As a result, the discharged patients, although asymptomatic, are required to extend their home confinement until they meet the protocol's requirements. This measure aims to ensure that patients do not pose a risk to others.
In a related development, no new suspected cases were reported in Tizi-Ouzou province on Sunday. Unfortunately, however, a fourth death from COVID-19 was recorded in the province. The victim, a 72-year-old émigré from the village of Thililit, was found dead at his home in Aïn El Hamam commune. His body is currently at the morgue of the local hospital.
At the national level, Algeria reported 57 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of confirmed cases stands at 511, while the death toll has risen to 31. The cases are distributed across 36 provinces, with Blida province accounting for 220 cases, or 43% of the total.
The two new deaths were recorded in Tizi-Ouzou and Aïn Defla provinces. One of the victims, a 75-year-old man, was living in France, while the other, a 64-year-old man, had been in contact with an Italian national. The majority of cases, 81%, were recorded in nine provinces, including Blida, Alger, Tizi Ouzou, and Constantine.
According to Professor Djamel Fourar, spokesperson for the scientific committee monitoring the pandemic, the number of people who have recovered remains at 31. He emphasized the importance of citizens adhering to personal and environmental hygiene rules and following quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
The distribution of cases by sex shows that 278 cases are male and 233 are female. The provinces with the highest number of cases are Blida, Alger, Tizi Ouzou, and Constantine, which account for 65% of the deaths. The situation remains under close monitoring, and authorities continue to urge citizens to take necessary precautions.
