The Saint-Louis prosecutor's office has taken a significant step in the case of Aminata Sy, a 17-year-old girl who was found dead in Podor. On November 2, the prosecutor's office requested the arrest of Karamo Cissé Ndiaye, alias Abdou Karim Ndiaye, who is suspected of killing Aminata Sy. According to reports, Ndiaye had provided multiple versions of the events surrounding the crime.
Aminata Sy's body was discovered on October 25 in the Lao Demba neighborhood of Podor. She was found inside a bag, with her hands tied to one of her feet and her face covered with a scarf. After the crime, Ndiaye fled the scene and was later apprehended by police in Mbacké. He initially confessed to the crime, but his statements have been inconsistent.
In his initial statement, Ndiaye claimed that a dispute had erupted in the room he shared with Aminata Sy over a sum of 350,000 CFA francs and her refusal to marry him. He alleged that Aminata Sy had attacked him with a hairpin and that she had hit her head against the wall while he was trying to defend himself. He then claimed to have tried to revive her before strangling her with a scarf for 15 minutes.
However, the autopsy report contradicted Ndiaye's initial statement, leading him to change his story. Confronted with the evidence collected by investigators, Ndiaye retracted his previous statements. He then claimed to have strangled Aminata Sy with his bare hands and used a scarf to muffle her cries. According to his revised statement, the crime occurred around 11 am.
Ndiaye also provided details on how he disposed of Aminata Sy's body. He claimed that when the victim's sisters came to look for her, he locked himself in the room with the body. He waited until nightfall to place the body in a bag and then abandoned it near the room he rented. He then fled to Mbacké via Tarédji, Dagana, and Saint-Louis.
The prosecutor's office has requested that Ndiaye be charged with assassination and held in custody. The case has sparked widespread outrage and concern about violence against women and girls in Senegal. The investigation is ongoing, and Ndiaye's fate will be determined by the courts.
The case highlights the need for authorities to take swift and decisive action to bring perpetrators of violence against women and girls to justice. Aminata Sy's family and friends are still grieving her tragic death, and the community is demanding justice for her. The prosecutor's office is under pressure to ensure that Ndiaye is held accountable for his alleged crime.
