The Commissariat d’arrondissement de Grand-Yoff in Senegal has apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in a psychotropic substance trafficking network. The arrests were made following an intelligence operation that revealed the existence of a Tapentadol trafficking ring operating in the Grand-Yoff market. The main suspect, who has a history of similar offenses, allegedly used tactics to evade police surveillance.
An operation conducted on September 17, from 12 pm to 6 pm, allowed police to observe the suspect engaging in illicit transactions. The suspect was seen selling pharmaceutical and psychotropic products, which were stored in a nearby box. The police intervention, which took place at around 7 pm, led to the suspect's arrest and the seizure of two plaquettes containing 40 Tapentadol tablets.
Further investigation led to a search of the suspect's premises, where 11 additional plaquettes containing 110 Tapentadol tablets were found, along with other pharmaceutical products, including Cipromed 500, amoxicilline Mokcit 500, and ibuprofen. Products intended for morphological modifications were also discovered. A sum of money was seized and placed under seal as part of the investigation.
The investigation also identified and arrested the suspect's presumed supplier, a trader residing in the Cité Millionnaire in Grand-Yoff. The supplier allegedly admitted to selling Tapentadol for about three months, citing financial difficulties as the reason for his actions. He claimed to have been sourcing the products from the Dakar black market and selling them illegally without the required qualifications.
The supplier also allegedly revealed that part of the money found in his possession came from his illicit commercial activities, while the rest came from a tontine. However, he was unable to provide a list of participants. A client who had just received a Tapentadol shipment on a Jakarta motorcycle was also arrested, with a sum of money equivalent to the product's purchase price found on him.
The two arrested individuals were placed in custody, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the network and the potential responsibilities of those involved. The authorities aim to uncover the full scope of the trafficking operation and bring all perpetrators to justice.
