The Saudi Embassy in Nouakchott held a reception on Friday evening to commemorate the 96th National Day of Saudi Arabia. The event was attended by Mauritanian Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ould Asweidat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and African and Mauritanian Cooperation, and Minister of Islamic Affairs and Primary Education, Foudil Ould Sidati Ould Ahmed Louly, among others. The celebration was also attended by Lamine Mint El Gouth, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic.
In his speech, Saudi Ambassador to Mauritania, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Raqabi, emphasized the strong and historic relations between Saudi Arabia and Mauritania, which are based on cooperation and mutual respect. He highlighted the significant development in Mauritanian-Saudi relations in recent years, particularly in the economic and investment fields. This development has been marked by a visit from a Saudi delegation of around 100 businessmen and investors, led by the Minister of Investment.
The Saudi Ambassador noted that the cooperation between the two countries has resulted in the signing of several important investment agreements in areas such as energy, agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure. These agreements reflect the depth of the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Mauritania. He also mentioned the implementation of several major development and investment projects, including the development of the "Angakou" electricity production station using gas, with a capacity of 230 megawatts and investments estimated at around $669 million.
In addition to these projects, the Saudi Ambassador highlighted the role of the Saudi Fund for Development in supporting Mauritania's development efforts. The fund has financed over 31 development projects in the country since 1979. He also mentioned the King Salman University Hospital project and the efforts of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Work, which has implemented numerous humanitarian and medical projects in various regions of Mauritania.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Ahmadou, and the Ambassador and Director of the Arab World, Mohamed Al-Amin Beyd. The celebration also saw the presence of representatives from the diplomatic corps, regional and international organizations, and cultural and scientific personalities.
The Saudi-Mauritanian relations have witnessed significant growth in recent years, with a focus on economic and investment cooperation.
