In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication, the youth of Bugesera, Rwanda, have built eight homes for families in need over the past five years. This initiative, part of a broader effort to support vulnerable populations, was highlighted during an event called "Urubyiruko Turashima" on October 9, 2026. The event aimed to celebrate the country's leadership and the youth's role in local development. During the ceremony, two new homes were handed over to needy families in the Musenyi district.

Christine Wihogora, a single mother of four who received one of the homes, expressed her gratitude and relief. She had been struggling to make ends meet while renting a place to live. Wihogora praised the youth for their kindness and commitment to helping those in need. She promised to take good care of the home and the provided livestock, recognizing the opportunities these resources would bring for her family's future.

Jeannette Mukamana, another beneficiary, also appreciated the support she received, including a cow that would help her improve her family's living conditions. She emphasized the importance of unity and love within the community and thanked the local leadership for their efforts. Mukamana encouraged the youth to continue their good work and to remain committed to community development.

Pascal Mbonimpaye, the National Youth Council representative in Bugesera, explained that the event was part of a larger initiative to appreciate the country's leadership and to showcase the youth's projects. He noted that this was the fourth time such an event was organized, and over the past five years, several families had benefited from housing and livestock donations. Mbonimpaye highlighted the youth's capabilities in construction and community service.

Mbonimpaye further emphasized that the youth had achieved significant milestones, including building two homes and providing livestock and household items to needy families. He encouraged the youth to continue their community service and to avoid negative behaviors such as substance abuse. By doing so, they could contribute positively to the country's development.

Richard Mutabazi, the Mayor of Bugesera, praised the youth for their innovative approach to community development and their decision to use their skills to build homes and support families in need. He noted that this approach was a departure from past negative behaviors associated with youth and demonstrated a new path forward. Mutabazi expressed hope that other youth would follow this example and engage in productive activities.

The youth's efforts over the past five years have been valued at approximately 200 million Rwandan francs. The initiative not only provides physical support but also fosters a sense of community and social responsibility among the youth. As the community continues to grow and develop, the role of youth in shaping its future remains crucial.
