The Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro has launched an Interact Club at Remescrown College in Ibadan, Nigeria, as part of its efforts to engage young people in community service, leadership, and humanitarian activities. The club, comprising 29 members, is led by Melody Olatunji as President, Fiyinfunoluwa Oluwole as Vice President, Ebunoluwa Oluwole as Treasurer, and Oyinkansola Oresanya as Secretary. The inauguration ceremony included the presentation of bags, exercise books, and membership certificates to the club members.
In collaboration with University Press Plc, the Rotary Club also donated textbooks to the school library to enhance teaching and learning. Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro President, Rotarian Omolara Oluborode, stated that the inauguration marked another step in the club's commitment to developing young people into responsible leaders and agents of positive change in society. She welcomed the new Interactors into a movement built on service, leadership, friendship, and positive change.
The Interact Club is a Rotary-sponsored program for young people aged 12 to 18 who come together to identify and address issues affecting their communities. Zonal Coordinator, Bisi Yomi-Layinka, explained that the name "Interact" represents "International" and "Action," emphasizing the movement's focus on young people taking positive action to improve their communities and the world. The new members have joined a global family of over 500,000 Interactors in more than 150 countries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including school management and teachers. In her acceptance speech, Melody Olatunji, the pioneer President of the club, expressed gratitude to those who entrusted her with the leadership responsibility. She outlined her administration's focus areas, including teamwork, kindness, leadership, community service, academic excellence, and friendship.
Olatunji emphasized that the club would encourage students to identify challenges and work collectively towards finding meaningful solutions. She noted that being the President of the club is not just about having a title, but about service, leadership, friendship, responsibility, and making a positive difference. The club aims to develop leadership skills among its members while serving the school, community, and society at large.
Rotarian Omolara Oluborode assured the new Interactors of the club's commitment to guiding, encouraging, and supporting them throughout their journey. She urged the students to lead by example, uphold integrity, and serve with compassion, energy, courage, and determination. The club's induction is seen as the beginning of a new journey in Rotary International's youth service program.
