The Rotary Club of Oluyole-Estate, Ibadan, recently organized a career talk and quiz competition for students from five secondary schools in Ibadan. The event, held at The Light Academy, aimed to promote literacy, encourage academic excellence, and expose students to career opportunities. Participating schools included The Light Academy, TMM Model School, Christ Saviour School, Ibadan Boys High School, and MashaAllah College. The program was part of Rotary's Basic Education and Literacy Month activities.
The President of the Rotary Club of Oluyole-Estate, Rotarian Kehinde Adeoye, emphasized the importance of education in transforming lives and building stronger communities. Adeoye encouraged students to remain curious, continue learning, and develop their talents, stressing that their present circumstances should not limit their aspirations. She urged participants to view the competition as an opportunity to celebrate learning, test their knowledge, and challenge themselves.
The career talk was delivered by Rotarian (Mrs) Mariam Fadeyi-Lawal, the club's Director of Youth Services. She encouraged students to cultivate a reading culture, understand their academic strengths, and make informed career choices. Fadeyi-Lawal advised them to identify their talents and pursue courses and skills that would equip them for future success and entrepreneurship.
The quiz competition tested participants in Mathematics, English Language, Science, and Current Affairs. A panel of judges comprising Rotarians Olaide Olayiwola, Akinloye Adeyeye, and Omowunmi Adeyemo evaluated the students' performance. TMM Model School emerged as the overall winner, followed by MashaAllah College, Ibadan Boys High School, The Light Academy, and Christ Saviour School.
All participating schools received prizes and recognition for their efforts. The Proprietress of The Light Academy, Pastor (Mrs) Stella Oloruntowoju, expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club of Oluyole-Estate for hosting the event at her school. She noted that the program provided a valuable platform for students to showcase their knowledge and gain exposure to career opportunities.
The event was attended by the club's Public Image Officer, Wuraola Badejogbin, and other members.
