The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan. According to the police, the suspects were arrested on October 2, 2026, following intelligence received about the attack which occurred on September 22, 2026. The victims were a family of six, including four children.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the three suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo, and Padonu Edward, all of Oloba Village, invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife, and their four children. The suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses, and a club, which they used to carry out the attack. The family was robbed of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw, and a spraying machine.

During the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head. The attack took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies disposed of in the same river.

Detectives of the Oyo State Police Command visited the scene, where photographs were taken, and several exhibits were recovered. The recovered items include the Boxer motorcycle belonging to the family, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses, and the club used during the attack. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.

Following their arrest, the suspects were subjected to interrogation, during which they confessed to their involvement in the crime. The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation into the case, with a view to ensuring that all persons found culpable are brought to justice. The suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
