Prince Samben Nwosu, the Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Anambra South in the 2027 general election, has promised to focus on job creation, sustainable empowerment, and grassroots development. He made this pledge during an interaction with journalists at his country home in Nnewi on Tuesday. Nwosu, a former organising secretary of the PDP and former Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission, aims to adopt a community-based approach to address socio-economic challenges in the senatorial district.
Anambra South comprises seven local government areas: Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, Orumba South, Nnewi North, and Nnewi South. Nwosu stated that he is seeking election to the Senate to provide quality representation rather than pursue personal wealth. He emphasized that his proposed representation would prioritize the needs of residents in the district. Nwosu's campaign will focus on engaging residents, particularly young people, to understand their socio-economic needs.
Nwosu's campaign strategy will differ from the traditional approach of distributing stipends during election periods. Instead, he plans to introduce an empowerment model that provides longer-term economic opportunities for constituents. This model aims to sustain his constituents throughout the election cycle, rather than providing short-term assistance. He believes that this approach will have a more significant impact on the lives of his constituents.
The PDP candidate has also promised to ensure that each of the seven local government areas in the district has a signature project under his proposed representation. He stated that every LGA will feel his presence, and any bill or motion presented on the floor of the Senate will have a direct impact on the daily lives and businesses of the people. Nwosu's legislative agenda will focus on creating economic opportunities, supporting businesses, and strengthening grassroots development across the district.
Nwosu expressed confidence in his party's grassroots structure and dismissed the prospects of rival candidates. He stated that the APC, APGA, and NDC candidates cannot be a threat to his aspiration due to his closeness to the people at the grassroots and the PDP's noticeable presence in every household in Nigeria. He emphasized that getting the mandate and defending it will not be a problem for the PDP.
The 2027 Senatorial election in Anambra South is expected to be different from previous elections, with a focus on protecting the ballots and preventing vote buying and electoral manipulation. Nwosu urged voters to reject attempts by politicians to induce them with money or other material benefits ahead of the election. He emphasized that the outcome of the election should not be determined by political influence and financial inducements.
Anambra South Senatorial District has a large concentration of commercial and industrial activities, particularly around Nnewi, while agriculture, trade, and small businesses remain important sources of livelihood across the area. Nwosu's proposed legislative agenda will prioritize the needs of the district, focusing on creating economic opportunities and supporting businesses. He aims to complete the good works of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, his town's brother, who was doing before his unfortunate demise.
