The Women Creating Wealth (WCW) programme has marked a significant milestone with the completion of its 10-month course by 220 women entrepreneurs in Tanzania. The programme, which aims to support women in growing their businesses and creating jobs, has equipped participants with knowledge, confidence, and enterprise capabilities. The milestone was celebrated during the WCW Country Impact and Certification Forum held in Dar es Salaam under the theme “Celebrating Impact. Building Community. Continuing the Legacy.”

The completed programme focused not only on business growth but also on personal mastery, leadership, and building confidence among women entrepreneurs. According to WCW Project Coordinator Brenda Mihanjo, the 10-month journey began with the women themselves, helping them develop self-awareness, confidence, purpose, and leadership skills before moving into areas such as finance, markets, and business growth. This approach enabled participants to build a strong foundation for their businesses and set sights on future growth.

The impact of the WCW programme extends beyond the participants themselves, with women in Tanzania having created nearly 9,000 decent and sustainable jobs. Since its launch, more than 1,000 women in Tanzania have taken part in the programme, with the impact extending to more than 1,000 households. The programme has also enabled women to raise capital, with over 17 million US dollars raised by women participating in WCW across seven African countries.

The WCW network brings together women entrepreneurs from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, and Senegal, providing opportunities to remain connected, trade together, share knowledge, and strengthen their collective voice. The network has supported women in accessing finance, markets, and growth opportunities, contributing to the creation of more than 49,000 jobs across the seven participating countries.

For the 220 women recognised at the forum, the next phase will focus on applying the skills, knowledge, and networks gained through WCW to expand their businesses, create jobs, and contribute to wider economic growth. According to WCW Country Project Coordinator Angaja Mwanga, the completion of the programme marked the beginning of a new chapter in which the women can continue to grow their enterprises and support one another through sustained collaboration.

The programme's focus on women-owned businesses, job creation, access to finance and markets, and stronger entrepreneurship networks aligns with Tanzania's wider economic transformation agenda under Development Vision 2050. The vision aims to transform Tanzania's economy and create a high-quality of life for its citizens. The WCW programme supports this vision by empowering women entrepreneurs to drive economic growth and create jobs.

The WCW programme aims to support 10,000 women across Africa to collectively generate one billion US dollars in revenue and create 200,000 jobs by 2030. With its focus on leadership development, enterprise skills, and access to finance and markets, the programme is well-positioned to make a significant impact on women's economic empowerment in Tanzania and beyond.
