Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has promised to construct a 100-kilometre rail line linking Moniya in Ibadan with Saki in Oke-Ogun if elected governor in 2027. This pledge was made during an interview on Arise News Television’s Morning Show programme in Lagos. Adegoke's proposed rail line aims to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from Oke-Ogun to Ibadan and other parts of the Southwest.
The proposed rail line is expected to make it easier for farmers in Oke-Ogun to transport their produce to markets in Ibadan and other Southwestern states. Adegoke described Oke-Ogun as the food basket of Oyo State, emphasizing that improved transportation would benefit both farmers and consumers in Ibadan and other parts of the region. He estimated the cost of a standard single-gauge rail line at about $3 million per kilometre, stressing that this figure is not the total cost of the proposed project.
Adegoke, who studied Agricultural Economics at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, before becoming a chartered accountant, said supporting farmers would be a priority of his proposed administration. His economic blueprint, tagged “Solutions 2027,” would focus on security, agricultural development, job creation, urban renewal, healthcare, education, industrialisation, infrastructure, teacher development, technology, and socio-economic development. This comprehensive plan aims to address various aspects of the state's development.
Adegoke also promised to prioritise local contractors in awarding government projects, stating that contractors from Oyo State would be given preference under his proposed administration. This move is expected to boost the local economy and provide opportunities for indigenous contractors. He highlighted his commitment to ensuring that the state's resources are utilised effectively for the benefit of its citizens.
On his candidature, Adegoke mentioned that voters have three major options: the ADC, Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and All Progressives Congress (APC). He described his candidacy as independent of political godfathers, stating that he is not tainted by any godfather but rather influenced by God Almighty. This assertion suggests that he aims to run an administration free from undue influences.
The ADC candidate's proposal for the Moniya-Saki rail line is part of his broader plan to develop the state's infrastructure and economy. By improving transportation links, Adegoke aims to enhance the commercial activities in the region, particularly in Oke-Ogun, which is known for its agricultural production.
