National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, has called on the party to carefully consider its future direction as it prepares to elect new national executives. In a Facebook post, he emphasised that the upcoming elections should not be viewed merely as a contest between individuals but as a choice between different political directions for the party. This comes as the NDC prepares for its national executive elections.

Mr Opare Addo highlighted the significance of the party's 2022 national executive elections, which saw Johnson Asiedu Nketia elected as National Chairman and Fifi Fiavi Kwetey as General Secretary. He stated that this election marked a political reset for the party, as it recognised the need to rebrand, reconnect with sections of Ghanaian society, and expand its electoral coalition beyond its traditional support base. The party aimed to win the argument and secure victory in the 2024 general elections.

The NDC National Youth Organiser credited the party's youth wing and its "Green Army" mobilisation strategy for playing a crucial role in the 2024 election success. He stated that the Green Army provided young people with a distinct identity and a disciplined mobilisation structure, demonstrating how young people could be organised around ideas, purpose, and political consciousness. This approach allowed for large-scale mobilisation without necessarily leading to political confrontation.

Mr Opare Addo urged the party not to become complacent following its 2024 victory, warning that political victories are temporary and that political relevance must be earned continuously. He encouraged the party to use its forthcoming national executive elections to strengthen its political architecture and maintain the broad coalition that contributed to its success. This, he believes, will ensure the party remains relevant and continues to grow.

The NDC National Youth Organiser posed critical questions for the party's delegates, asking whether they want a youth wing that produces a disciplined, intellectually confident, and politically conscious generation or one that reduces young people to foot soldiers for political confrontation. He also challenged delegates to look beyond the question of who can defeat the NPP when choosing the party's next leadership.

Mr Opare Addo envisioned an NDC that can be fierce in competition but responsible in power, with a leadership capable of building a modern, intellectually confident, and inclusive party. He called for an NDC that can win support among the middle class without abandoning the working class, inspire young people without "weaponising" them, and mobilise millions without creating political fear. This, he believes, will enable the party to build a better Ghana.

Ultimately, Mr Opare Addo stated that the ultimate measure of the party's political success should be its contribution to building a better Ghana. He emphasised that political victory is not the ultimate destination, but rather a means to achieve the party's goals. The party's focus should be on building a better Ghana, and its leadership should be capable of achieving this vision.
