A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Bosun Arebuwa, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Arebuwa announced his defection on Thursday in Akure during the inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the Renewed Hope Project 2027. He cited his assessment of the political situation within the PDP and his belief that he could contribute more through the APC as reasons for his decision.
Arebuwa, a chartered accountant, was a PDP governorship aspirant in the 2024 Ondo State election. He had been a member of the PDP since 1999 but decided to leave the party. He plans to deploy his political experience, grassroots network, and organisational capacity to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Arebuwa's defection comes about two years after he contested for the PDP governorship ticket ahead of the 2024 Ondo governorship election. He polled two votes in the party's primary, which was eventually won by former Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi. At the defection ceremony, Chairman of the occasion, Olusola Oke, welcomed Arebuwa into the APC and described him as an experienced politician and businessman with grassroots influence.
The National Patron of the Renewed Hope Project 2027, Mahmoud Ahmed Mubi, and other members of the organisation also welcomed Arebuwa's participation in the movement. Arebuwa has been designated Grand Patron of the Renewed Hope Project 2027 in Ondo State and Patron for the South-West zone. He is expected to participate in grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Arebuwa disclosed that thousands of his supporters were spread across wards and local government areas in the state. He plans to engage in community engagement, youth and women empowerment, and other initiatives across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
