Nyala Insurance Company S.C. has marked its 30th anniversary by unveiling a rebranding initiative called "NISCO Reimagined" and reporting significant growth in assets, capital, and profit. The company's total assets exceed 7 billion Birr, with a paid-up capital of over 2 billion Birr. Nyala Insurance also reported a profit of more than 1 billion Birr in the last financial year.
The "NISCO Reimagined" strategy is a broader transformation plan that goes beyond visual identity to include customer service, technology, workforce development, and core business operations. According to Yared Molla, CEO of Nyala Insurance, the new corporate logo is part of this initiative. The company has expanded to over 50 branches nationwide, now designated as "customer experience hubs."
Nyala Insurance was established three decades ago with an initial paid-up capital of 7 million Birr. The company was founded by investors seeking to contribute to Ethiopia's financial sector following the opening of the economy to private investment. Yared noted that customer trust, shareholder support, and employee commitment have driven the company's growth despite evolving market conditions and increasing competition.
The company has introduced innovative products and updated existing policies to align with changing customer needs. Nyala's latest strategy focuses on the customer experience, including a claims concierge service designed to streamline processing. The company is moving away from traditional branch-based service models to make its locations more accessible and client-focused.
Digitalization is a core pillar of the new strategy, with plans to modernize digital infrastructure and service delivery. Nyala has invested heavily in workforce development through its Graduate Trainee Program, launched nine years ago, which has trained over 200 insurance professionals. The company's workforce now exceeds 400 employees.
Nyala has built key partnerships with international insurers and reinsurers and acquired strategic ownership stakes in several businesses. The company reported paying over 1.7 billion Birr in taxes to the government over the past 15 years. This strategic refresh comes as Ethiopia's insurance industry faces pressure to enhance service delivery, boost operational efficiency, and accelerate tech adoption.
Looking ahead, Yared emphasized that the next phase will focus on improving service quality, strengthening financial capacity, and expanding the brand's footprint in domestic and international markets. The new logo is just one aspect of the transformation; long-term success will depend on delivering measurable improvements in customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and contributions to the broader economy.
